Treasure Stones

These treasure stones are fun for parties! Kids always love hidden treasures.

These stones or rocks are easy to make and the finished product will be like a lucky dip for the kids.  Hide them in the garden and let the kids go on a scavenger hunt to collect them - and you get two activities for the price of one!

What you need to make your Treasure Stones:

  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 cup used coffee grinds
  • 1/2 cup salt
  • 1/4 cup sand
  • tempera paint or food coloring
  • small toys or treasures

Directions:

In a large bowl, mix all the ingredients into a dough.

Remove the dough form and knead it on a floured surface. Press dough into molds to shape.

Hide toys and surprises in the center of the dough, and then allow dough to dry in a warm place for 2-3 days.

When dry, the dough will look and feel like a rock. Break open the rock with a small hammer to reveal treasures.

You can use this craft idea during holidays by being a little creative.  Shape your 'rocks' like eggs and hide plastic chicks or bunnies inside them for Easter.  Decorate the rocks like eyes and add ghoulish toys or treats for Halloween.

Let your imagination run wild!
