Paper Mache Paste

If you are going to do some paper mache with the kids, you will need to make some paper mache paste to hold your paper mache masterpiece together.

There are three different recipes on this page that you can use to make your paste, the first one is made using everyday items you probably already have in your pantry so it does not necessarily mean that your crafting has to be expensive.

Personally, I prefer using wall paper paste, it is easy to get, reasonably cheap and it does a good job.  But then they all do, so just pick the one that suits and you will be ready to get started on your paper mache projects.

What you need to make your Paper Mache Paste : Recipe 1

  • plain flour
  • water
  • wintergreen oil
  • large bowl or bucket
  • hand held mixer (or drill with a mixer attachment)

Directions:

Add your water to your flour in a large bowl or bucket - 3 parts water to 1 part flour.

Stir the mixture is creamy and smooth.

Adding a few drops of oil of wintergreen (which you can get at the drugstore) makes the paste last longer.

What you need to make your Paper Mache Paste : Recipe 2

  • packet of wallpaper paste
  • water
  • large bowl or bucket
  • hand held mixer (or drill with a mixer attachment)

Directions:

Add your water to your wallpaper paste in a large bowl or bucket - 1 part wallpaper paste with 3 parts water.

Stir the mixture is creamy and smooth.

What you need to make your Paper Mache Paste : Recipe 3

  • white glue (elmers glue or PVA glue would work)
  • water
  • large bowl or bucket
  • hand held mixer (or drill with a mixer attachment)

Directions:

Add your water to your white glue in a large bowl or bucket - 2 parts with 1 part water.

Stir the mixture is creamy and smooth.
